Project Value

At Cirencester Kingshill School there was a need for a larger library; two additional science laboratories; two additional humanities classrooms; and an enlarged changing room facility for the sports hall.

We spent many months working on the feasibility of various options and engaged with the school regularly to present these options and discuss feedback. Our aim here was to achieve maximum value for the school in every sense, by making best use of existing facilities and locating the additional accommodation in the most appropriate place.

The brief was fulfilled by converting the existing library into two humanities classrooms and building a new library / LRC looking out over the playing field. Tucked in behind the L-shaped LRC and creating a kind of courtyard is a separate building to accommodate the two additional science labs. These are located in the vicinity of the existing science labs and so this makes sense in terms of logistics and day-to-day use.

Given the original complexity of our brief and the difficulties that the site itself presented, we are extremely proud of the results that have been achieved here. This is a project where the decision to engage us at a very early stage has reaped untold benefits for the school.
